Reawakening came together quickly after my love of composing and performing solo piano music were reawakened in the fall of 2014. 

It’s not that I hadn’t been playing music. I was playing plenty, but it had become my job more than it was my creative outlet. 

It was in preparing for a solo piano concert in my old stomping grounds of Denver, Colorado that I had a breakthrough. I sat down to practice some of the classical and jazz selections on my program after a glass of red wine. All of sudden, new music poured out of me for the first time in quite some time. Less than 20 minutes later, “So Hy” was born.

The ideas continued to flow through my fingers. Within two months, “Broken Pieces,” “North Dakota Prairies,” “Embers” and “Almost Home” were written. When trying to describe the style of these new compositions, I keep coming back to the idea of “comfort music.” 

“Emandy,” the other original piece on this album, was composed for the wedding of my good friends Emily and Andy in 2010. Original arrangements of my favorite hymns “Amazing Grace” and “Rock of Ages” and my two favorite folk songs “Danny Boy” and “Shenandoah” round out the album.

Thank you to my family, friends, colleagues and teachers for your support throughout my musical journey. Without you, I could have never accomplished my goal of playing music for a living.

It brings me joy to be able to share with you this music that means so much to me. I hope this album brings you comfort as you listen.
