Bach’s most dramatic organ opening, played as if a ragtime pianist broke in during the first bar. Spooky, bouncy, and strangely hard to stop playing. Includes Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced PDFs, so every pianist in the house can join the haunting. Instant download.
As the story goes:
Every cathedral has an organist who stays after hours, and this one stayed late every Halloween to play Bach’s Toccata for an empty church, because he liked how the notes came back to him from the stone.
That night he hit the famous opening notes and the organ answered by syncopating them, all on its own, with a left hand that sounded suspiciously like a honky-tonk upright from 1912.
He stopped and the organ kept going, and from somewhere in the balcony came the sound of a ghost clapping on the two and the four, which is how you know it is a ragtime ghost and not a baroque one.
The organist has not been seen since, but the cathedral reports that attendance on Halloween is up, and the offering plate comes back with a lot of ones.
